The Residence
A shaded pavilion house on the ridge at Dubai Hills.
Vela was drawn around a single idea: that a house in this climate should be a sequence of shaded rooms rather than a glass box facing the sun. The plan sets a deep timber soffit over the entire southern elevation, so the terrace, the pool deck and the principal rooms sit in shadow from midday onward.
The ground floor is one continuous space, divided only by a stone hearth wall and a change of level. Sliding panels retract fully into the structure, leaving a 14-metre opening to the pool. Above, the bedroom floor is set back and clad in vertical timber, reducing the mass of the house when seen from the fairway.
The residence was completed in 2023 and has been maintained to specification since. It is offered furnished by arrangement, with the exception of the owner's art.

The house is built in three materials and no more: sandblasted travertine, oiled teak and dark bronze. Openings are cut deep into the mass so that every window carries its own shade, and no glazing is left unprotected on the south or west.
Ceilings run at 3.4 metres on the ground floor and 3.1 above. Floors are laid in 1.2-metre travertine slabs with concealed drainage at the thresholds, so the terrace stone reads as a continuation of the salon.
